The first thing you will need to do is start a self-hosted WordPress blog. You will want a self-hosted blog because having one will enable you to monetize your blog in the future if you choose to, also if you just get a free WordPress blog, it could be deleted at any time and you don’t want to spend all that time working on your blog for you to just wake up one morning and it’s all gone. This could happen because they will have full rights to all of the material you have written on your blog. Another important reason to go with a self-hosted WordPress blog is that it’s not easy if you create a free site and want to make the switch to a paid version of your site.
There are many different hosting sites, but after doing research I decided confidently to go with HostGator.
Now you’ll want to head over to the Get Started Now button. When I first started out, I chose the Hatchling Plan and then later upgraded to the Business Plan. The first question you’re going to have to answer is choosing your domain name. This is something you need to really think hard about, and hopefully, you’ve already been thinking about it if you’re considering starting a website or blog. Next, you choose your plan and how often you want to be billed. Obviously, if you pay more upfront you are saving money in the long run, but when I was just starting out I chose to be billed once a month.
Next, you’ll want to decide on a name for your blog, find a theme you love and create a logo. You can read about how I came up with the name for my blog on my About Me page.

I got my theme from Pretty Darn Cute Design and I am using the Pretty Happy theme.
The logo I created myself using Photoshop. I am not even that good at Photoshop, I used to be when I was in Digital Design in High School, but now? Not so good. A lot has changed in that program since I have used it. Luckily, creating a logo is just text and basic layers, so it was actually really easy to do! Unless you have someone create a logo for you, you basically have to do it yourself.
Now I want to quickly talk about email subscribers because you are going to have visitors who would like to get emails and updates from you. When I first started this blog, of course, I wasn’t making any money from it right off the bat, so I wanted to keep things free or cheap in the beginning instead of pouring a bunch of money into something that I wasn’t sure was even going to work out. First, I was getting myself familiar with the plugins in WordPress, so I found a free email subscribers plugin and for almost 2 years, I never realized that it wasn’t even working! My subscribers never received their confirmation emails from the plugin I was using. I literally just realized this in January 2018! Probably because now, I am spending more time than ever working on my website and figuring things out on my own. I decided to do a test email to my husband to see if he got a confirmation and he did not! Needless to say, I received an email from Lindsey Riel at Pretty Darn Cute Design she always sends emails letting you know about new products or discounts.
